Britons are travelling overseas to access embryo screening procedures currently not permitted in the UK.
Patients seek out preimplantation genetic testing procedures such as PGT-A to reveal the sex of their embryos, sometimes in an attempt to avoid conditions more likely to occur in one sex. Others want to have PGT-P to select embryos with polygenic scores indicating reduced or increased likelihood of certain traits.
'Everyone I know who has done it goes to the US or Dubai, so you might as well regulate it so people are allowed to do it here,' said one of the patients who travelled to the US for sex selection.
