Alice Plein was previously a Volunteer Writer at BioNews, having originally joined the publication under the auspices of its writing scheme. She is currently studying for a PhD in Cardiovascular Development at University College London's Institute of Ophthalmology, under the auspices of a Research Grant from the British Heart Foundation. Her research, conducted in the laboratory of Professor Christiana Ruhrberg, focuses on the formation of the heart and the interaction of different cell types during the formation of the aorta and the pulmonary artery. Previously she studied Physiology, Development and Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge - incorporating a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship at the California Institute of Technology - where she studied neural development in the zebrafish.
