In a study published in Nature, scientists used ancient DNA to gain new insights into the spread of culture, technologies and ancestry at a crucial stage in European history. They discovered that nomadic animal-herders from the Eurasian steppe mingled with Copper Age farmers in southeastern Europe centuries earlier than previously thought.
Authors, Dr Adam-Benjamin Rohrlach, mathematics lecturer and ancient DNA researcher from the University of Adelaide, Australia, and Sandra Penske, PhD candidate from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany write in the Conservation.
