A UK based woman undertook a commercial DNA test initially to explore her paternal ancestry. The results indicated that her presumed father was not her biological father.
The woman and her three siblings were all conceived via donor sperm. A half sister found via the DNA match provided additional details, including the biological father's age and background; he was a young medical student when donating sperm. The donor later made contact after also joining the DNA service.
The woman's DNA results influenced her own decisions around assisted reproduction: she chose to become an egg donor and underwent related testing and matching procedures with a recipient.
