In October BICA (the British Infertility Counselling Association) held its Annual Conference in person for the first time since the pandemic.
PET director Sarah Norcross was delighted to join fertility counsellors and to chair the afternoon session of their conference. The afternoon speakers included:
Dr Lucy Frith (reader in bioethics and social science, in the Centre for Social Ethics and Policy, School of Law, University of Manchester).
Hayley King (a donor-conceived person who is also herself a mother of twins conceived with donor sperm and founder of All Things Donor Conception.
Michael Johnson-Ellis (Co-Founder & Co-CEO, My Surrogacy Journey® and blogger on the social media channel TwoDadsUK.
Sarah was particularly pleased to meet Hayley as she had spoken at a recent PET event 'Small Change – Is It Time to Reconsider Compensation for Gamete Donors?' and yet the two had never met in person. If you would like to hear Hayley's presentation you can find the podcast of the PET event here.
All the speakers emphasised the importance of counselling and not only at the beginning of a patients' fertility journey but throughout the pregnancy and after any children have been born.
It was a great conference and a special celebration followed as BICA was marking its 35 birthday.
PET wishes BICA a very happy birthday and many more years of delivering much needed counselling support to fertility patients.
