PET's director Sarah Norcross travelled to Cambridge on 13 September to act as an expert witness at the UK citizen's jury on genome editing.
The jury was asked to consider 'Are there any circumstances under which a UK Government should consider changing the law to intentional genome editing of human embryos for serious genetic conditions?'
Sarah's role was to help participants understand UK law regulating embryos outside the human body. She also explained the pros and cons of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD - also known as PGT-M and PGT-SR), an existing, legal, way to help people who wish to have children without passing on serious genetic conditions.
