An experimental off-the-shelf CAR-T cell therapy has shown early signs of activity against advanced solid tumours, including metastatic colorectal cancer.
The treatment, known as FT836, is an off-the-shelf CAR-T cell therapy derived from induced pluripotent stem cells. Preliminary Phase 1 data presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting included nine patients with advanced cancers treated without conditioning chemotherapy. Five patients were available for an initial assessment of efficacy.
Among the reported cases was a patient with metastatic colorectal cancer who had previously received seven lines of treatment. A liver tumour lesion decreased in diameter by 52 percent during follow-up. The investigators also detected FT836 cells in both blood and tumour tissue following treatment.
The findings were presented as a conference abstract and represent early-stage clinical results from an ongoing Phase 1 clinical trial.
