Alastair MacDonald, the world's second IVF baby and first IVF boy was born in 1979 as a result of treatment at Bourne Hall clinic, the same place that helped Leslie Brown conceive Louise, who was born six months previously.
In the Guardian, Alastair's mum, Grace, tells the story of her fertility journey: meeting Patrick Steptoe, Robert 'Bob' Edwards, Jean Purdey and the other women trying to become mums.
Grace and Alastair were both guest speakers at PET's recent event, 'Robert Edwards at 100: Remembering an IVF Visionary'. You can see them speaking about their experiences and their relationship with Bob in our short videos (see BioNews 1313 [Grace] and 1314 [Alastair]) or listen to the whole podcast for more voices (see BioNews 1309).
