The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) has announced the appointment of Sally Cheshire as its interim chair when Professor Lisa Jardine's term as chair comes to an end in January 2014.
Cheshire has been an Authority member since 2006 and chairs the Audit and Governance Committee. She is currently also chair of Health Education North West and deputy chair of the Health Research Authority. Previously, Cheshire was chair of NHS North West and also chaired the Expert Group of Commissioning NHS Infertility Provision. She has a background in finance and business.
Commenting on the appointment, Sally Cheshire said: 'I am delighted to take on the interim chair role and consider it a privilege to lead the HFEA as we refresh our strategy.
'Our absolute priority will be to work with our stakeholders to ensure patients, donor-conceived families and everyone we serve receives excellent, safe, high quality care and support', she added.
