For the first time, microplastics have been found in human ovarian follicular fluid. This raises concerns about the substances’ potential impact on women's fertility, since they can cross the placental barrier.
The new research published in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety detected microplastics in the follicular fluid of 14 out of 18 women at a fertility clinic in Salerno, Italy.
