An all-party parliamentary group on infertility was launched last week in the UK. The group, which will operate on a temporary basis to collate a report for presentation to the Department of Health, is to be chaired by Kevin Barron MP.
The report will be timed to follow publication of the first draft of the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) fertility guidelines, which are due to be produced in June 2003. It will examine and make recommendations on how best to improve infertility treatment provision on the NHS. In particular, it will highlight areas where financial savings could be made.
The National Infertility Awareness Campaign (NIAC) said that it hoped the report 'will contribute towards the final draft of the NICE guidelines due out in November, and assist the Department of Health in its consideration of how the guidelines can best be implemented throughout the NHS'.
