Evidence of cloned human babies will be presented to the world this week, claimed Brigitte Boisselier, president of Clonaid, at a news conference held in Israel last weekend.
Clonaid announced the birth of the first cloned human baby just after Christmas last year. 'Eve' was said to have been born on 26 December to a 31-year-old American woman at an undisclosed overseas location. Since then, Clonaid have announced four other cloned babies born, they say, in the Netherlands, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the United States. A 'second generation' of implanted embryos has also allegedly been created. No evidence supporting any of their claims has so far been presented.
Boisselier told the news conference that evidence supporting the claims - proof that the clone born in Japan exists - will be shown 'in a few days... maybe next week'. She said that it was to be presented at a conference in Brazil, to be held sometime this week and attended by some of the parents of the cloned babies and some prospective parents. Apparently, she and Rael, the original founder of Clonaid and leader of the Raelian sect, are also seeking to build a hotel in Brazil, where the legal system is 'more sympathetic to cloning', for people who wish to become pregnant with clones. Prospective parents, she said, want to 'start an organisation - Human Clone Rights'.
