Scientists from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands have reported they have used CRISPR to target a gene in HIV to disable the virus and eliminate it from cells in vitro.
The work is due to be presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in Barcelona, Spain, next month.
