Second woman ever to have a child following IVF
Grace MacDonald gave birth to the world's first IVF boy – Alastair MacDonald – in Glasgow in January 1979, becoming the second woman (after Lesley Brown) ever to have a child following IVF. Grace was one of at least 282 volunteer patients who was treated with (then experimental) IVF at Oldham between 1969 and 1978. Only two of these patients, Lesley and Grace, went on to have a live birth.
