While access to IVF is restricted to some women due to their high BMI, the reasons why obesity can reduce the chance of pregnancy and live birth following fertility treatment remain unclear.
Some researchers have previously hypothesised that inflammation in people with high BMI could be behind the reduced chance of a live birth from IVF, but a recent study published in Scientific Reports found none of the inflammatory and metabolic markers released from adipose tissue were predictive for the success of a pregnancy or live birth following IVF in a cohort of 195 women.
