Legislation to amend Michigan law to establish clarity over parentage of children born via surrogacy is in the pipeline.
Surrogacy is currently illegal in the state and entering or brokering a surrogacy arrangement is punishable with fines. Recently a number of bills were passed by the Michigan Senate, which could enable a legislative framework permitting surrogacy in the state to be enacted.
The Senate Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety Committee are due to sit on 14 March 2024 to hear further testimony surrounding a change in legislation, Michigan Public reported.
