The UK's National Screening Committee has not recommended a national screening programme for prostate cancer.
It has, however, recommended a targeted national prostate cancer screening programme to men with confirmed BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene variants every two years, from age 45 to age 61.
The Committee also plans to collaborate with the team conducting the 'Trial of Randomised Approaches for National Screening for Men' (TRANSFORM), which is a study to develop and trial a more accurate test than a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test alone in the hope to improve the balance of benefit and harm of screening (see BioNews 1316).
The Committee has opened a 12-week public consultation.
Please read the announcement from the UK National Screening Committee for more information and to take part in the consultation.
