All of us at PET and BioNews would like to wish a very Happy New Year to our readers, followers, and supporters around the world.
To kick off 2023, we've asked ten key experts and advocates – working in the UK, the USA, Australia, and Singapore – to tell us what they need PET to do this year. Their responses have left us in little doubt that PET is needed now more than ever.

That's a lot for us to take on, but with your help, we intend to make a start on it. You can support our work by joining our Friends of PET membership scheme, and also by joining the ranks of our volunteers.
It's already shaping up to be a busy year, with issues including reform of fertility and embryo research law (the HFEA is due to hold a consultation on this subject imminently) and the growing prominence of genomic healthcare and research.
We plan to hit the ground running this week, with our exhibition stand at the Fertility 2023 conference in Belfast, where we'll also be presenting a poster about the far-ranging findings of our 30th birthday report. Do come by and say hello (we're stand no 71).
Then we'll be getting involved in other key events, including the Third International Summit on Human Genome Editing in March. We're delighted that the organising committee for this Summit is chaired by PET chair of trustees, Professor Robin Lovell-Badge.
In the meantime, be sure to register for our packed programme of free-to-attend online events on Wednesdays, beginning with an event next week. Our upcoming events include:
- Your Guide to Genetics and Genomics in the Fertility Clinic (18 January 2023)
- 100 Years of Daedalus: The Birth of Assisted Reproductive Technology (1 February 2023)
- Understanding Miscarriage: Pregnancy Loss after Fertility Treatment (15 February 2023)
- When to Stop Storage: Improving Conversations About Unused Embryos (1 March 2023)
