Radio 4's Today programme (from 2:48) featured a discussion with Laura Bridgens, co-chair of the Donor Conceived Register and a donor-conceived individual herself, in a segment focusing on the ability of donor-conceived people to start accessing contact details for their donor.
The UK law surrounding donor anonymity was changed in 2005 to allow those conceived using gametes donated after 1 April 2005 to access their donor's contact details from the age of 18. The first donor-conceived people came of age this year.
Dr Marilyn Crawshaw researcher in donor conception and honorary fellow at the University of York joined to discuss the implication of direct-to-consumer DNA testing on donor anonymity, and also donor-conceived people.
