The UK government does not plan to act on the joint recommendations of the Scottish Law Commission and the Law Commission of England and Wales to reform UK surrogacy law.
In a letter to the Commissions, health minister Maria Caulfield wrote: 'While we appreciate the importance of this work, parliamentary time does not allow for these changes to be taken forward at the moment.'
The recommendations were the result of a review of surrogacy law that took place between 2018 and 2023 (see BioNews 948, 1185).
