NICE has published draft guidance for identifying genetic risk of ovarian cancer in NHS patients, and has recommended genetic testing is expanded.
Professor Jonathan Benger, chief medical officer and interim director of the centre for guidelines, said: 'While there will be an initial upfront cost associated with setting up multidisciplinary teams and increasing genetic testing, the risk reducing surgery we recommend could save lives while also saving the NHS money and resources in the long run. This is an example of how NICE is helping deliver the best care to patients while also ensuring value for the taxpayer.'
The consultation runs until 27 October 2023 with an expected publication date for the new guidance on 13 March 2023.
