In February 2025 a UK judge publicly named prolific donor Robert Charles Albon, following a case concerning a child conceived using Albon's sperm (see BioNews 1277 and 1281), and warned of the dangers of unregulated donation.
Albon, who advertised his services online under the name 'Joe Donor', has since been involved in two further cases (see BioNews 1289). A fourth judgment involving Albon is expected later this year.
Natalie Sutherland, PET (Progress Educational Trust) Trustee and partner at Burgess Mee, provides a breakdown of the existing judgments and the risks of unregulated donation in Solicitors Journal.
