The US state of Ohio has banned fraudulent assisted reproduction, in a criminal justice bill passed on 15 December 2022.
Fraudulent assisted reproduction, or fertility fraud, involves a doctor using his own sperm in fertility treatment of a patient despite having promised to use sperm from an anonymous donor, Times Leader Online reported.
Other US states, including Indiana, have already criminalised the practise after the use of direct-to-consumer DNA tests revealed many donor conceived children were related to their mothers' gynaecologists (see BioNews 998).
